The Vilenica Literary Festival celebrates freedom of expression and has been raising the awareness of the urgency of cultural pluralism, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence in the world since 1986. Drawing on its spatial, historical and cultural distinctness, the festival perceives literature as a platform for dialogue, capable of transcending the psychological and physical barriers, as a means of empowering individuals and the society, and as a means of striving for coexistence and peace. Ever since its beginnings, the Vilenica Literary Festival has been striving to support peaceful resolution of conflict and is now once more, in the light of recent armed conflict, advocating for peace and respect for the freedom of nations and individuals. It is calling for an immediate end to violence and censorship of writing and speech, as well as for increased dialogue.
