During the year in which Ljubljana has become the UNESCO World Book Capital, the Vilenica Festival has invited past winners of the Vilenica Prize to appear again before the Ljubljana public. At three literary evenings, nine of the prize winners will be participating by reading from their current works and joining in the debate on the theme of the Festival, Central Europe and position of the book in present-day society. This is an affirmation of the European prose writers, poets, playwrights and essayists who will not only be appearing at the literary evenings in Ljubljana, but will also creating new texts, which will be published in the year 2010.

On this occasion, guests at the Klub Cankarjevega doma will include Josip Osti and Pavel Vilikovský. The poet Josip Osti lives in Karst and has through his works depicted a stirring poetic image of war in the Balkans. For the past years he has been writing in Slovene and has become one of the central contemporary poets. Appearing together with him will be Pavel Vilikovský, one of the foremost living Slovak prose writers, who through his irony probes into generally accepted preconvictions and truths.
