The literary jury panel consisting of Veno Taufer, the president Andrej Blatnik, Lidija Dimkovska, Niko Grafenauer, Ludwig Hartinger, Jože Hradil, Vesna Kondrič Horvat, Andrej Medved, Tone Peršak, Veronika Simoniti, Tomaž Šalamun, Neva Šlibar, Špela Šramel, Aleš Šteger, Jana Unuk and Jani Virk has decided to confer the prize Vilenica 2006 on Miodrag Pavlović, one of the foremost writers of contemporary Serbian poetry and a founder of modernism. With the literary prize Vilenica 2006 Serbia and Montenegro join the list of Vilenica-prize receiving countries.
Miodrag Pavlović’s biography
Miodrag Pavlović is a poet, an essayist, a prose writer and a playwright. He was born in 1928 in Novi Sad. He graduated in medicine and worked as a doctor for several years. He was Director of the Belgrade National Theatre Drama and in 1961 he started working as an editor for the publishing house Prosveta in Belgrade and held the position for twenty years.
He travelled extensively and gave lectures at universities in the United States, Australia, India and China.
He is a regular member of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the European Academy of Poetry.
He has received a great number of important awards and prizes for his literary work such as the Serbian Writers’ Association Prize, the Belgrade October Prize for his dramatic work, the Struga Golden Wreath, the Belgrade October Prize for his literary works, the Zmaj Prize for poetry, the Branko Miljković Prize, the Rade Drainc Prize, the Todor Manojlović Prize, the Desanka Maksimović Prize, the Jovan Dučić Prize, the Vuk Karađić Prize, the Laze Kostić Prize, the Djordje Jovanović Prize for his contributions to literary criticism and theory, the Nolit Publishing House Prize, the City of Vršac European Prize for poetry and in 2003 the City of Münster European Prize for poetry.

Veno Taufer has translated two of Pavlović’s volumes of poetry into Slovene: The Bright and Gloomy Festivals (1977) and Poems (1977).
Several prose works and essays have been translated into Czech, Hungarian, Polish and German.
He also does translations from Italian, French and English.
